Asad Kamran is a multi-disciplinary architect and artist from Karachi, Pakistan. He intersects visual and spatial design with community to express and dissect the confusions, contradictions and poetics of a changing world. He has started community projects such as Jugaar Pop ups (Montreal, CA) and Cinema 73(Karachi, PK) as artistic experiments that continue to make impactful change in community.
His painting practice is rooted in the autobiography, he creates queer-scapes that explore the intersections of intimate encounters, migratory displacement, and historical-cultural rupture through drawing and painting. His images layer South Asian visual motifs with abstract gestural techniques to deliberately counter narratives of victimhood with a push for hopeful, speculative and metaphoric worlds.
He has various solo and group shows to his credit. Having exhibited his work across Karachi, Lahore, Istanbul, Edinburgh & Montreal. His work has been showcased in various international publications.
